DO YOU KNOW WHAT "TO GET RID OF" MEANS?
I would say 90% of Spanish people don't know the meaning of this phrase but I think it is quite important because you will hear many native speakers using it.
For example: "This sofa is old, we need to get rid of it". It is mostly used in connection with objects that you no longer need or are no longer useful. It can also be used when talking about people. For example: "Our team is too big, we need to get rid of a few people". I think the closest Spanish translation is "deshacerse de algo/alguien.
Hope that helps!
