Most Spanish people like to pronounce English words exactly how they see them on the page. This would be wonderful if it worked but English is not a very nice language in terms of pronunciation. Unlike in Spanish, when you see a word written in English and you try to say it, there is no guarantee that you will say it correctly. This is the case for people who are learning English and native speakers as well. For this reason it is always important to approach a new English word with some level of care!
The word we are looking at here is: “salmon” which is a good example to show where most Spanish people make a mistake. Spanish people see this word and think: “Ok I am going to say that word exactly as it is written, just like in Spanish!” “saLmon” The problem, in this case, is that the “L” is COMPLETELY silent. We way native speakers say this word is: “sa-mon”. We don't even go close to saying an “L”. So please be careful when you speak English. You can't trust the words to tell you how you should say them. Hope that helps!
