IT'S NOT A "SPOT", IT'S AN "AD"
Many Spanish people start talking to me about an amazing "spot" that they have seen on TV. It is understandable that they would use the word "spot" because "spot" is an English word, right? Well, yes it is but a "spot" is a "spot" not an "ad".
A "spot" in English is commonly used for teenagers who go through the horrible experience of having "spots" on their face. Equally, you could wear a "spotty" dress, if that takes your fancy. If you want to talk about the "spots" on TV then you need to use the words "advertisment", "advert" or just, very simply, an "ad".
So, have you seen any good "ads" on TV recently?
Hope that helps!
