A few years ago I had an extremely important meeting that was penned in weeks in advance. But unfortunately, 15 minutes after the supposed start of the meeting and one email prompt later, I was still waiting.
The other party never showed.
As you can imagine, I was a bit annoyed and disappointed!
I’m sure I’m not the only person this has happened to. And as tempting as it is to show a little annoyance in my follow up email, I knew that would be a HUGE mistake.
So to avoid such situations, here’s what I do.
1. Always send an e-invite.
2. If he/she’s not there when the meeting is supposed to have started, I wait 5 minutes and send a prompt:
📧 Hi XXX, I’m ready when you are.
3. If he/she still fails to show up after 15 minutes, I send an email to reschedule:
📧 Hi XXX, something must have come up at the last minute. I’d be happy to reschedule our meeting. How does Thursday 10h look for you?
📧 Hi XXX, sorry we missed each other earlier today. How about we reschedule our meeting for Thursday?
Hope that helps!
