SOUP OR SOAP?
This is something the Spanish people often confuse and it is important that you remember the correct meaning. So the classic mistake is this: "What would you like for first course?" "I would like some SOAP"!!!!!!! Jabón?????
So just to make it very clear: SOUP=SOPA and SOAP=JABóN.
Notice in the question the person uses "first course". This is a better version than lots of Spanish people use which is "first plate" (a direct translation from Spanish). To be honest, you can not really use the expression "first plate" because "plate" is almost always used to refer to the physical object that you eat your food on.
Hope that helps!
